The Albany Sunday Workouts program is led by Bay City Basketball Director and Albany High School Assistant Coach Avri Finch, along with an experienced coaching staff.
Coach Avri is a Bay City alumnus and former Albany High School standout, and was a four-year starter at UC Santa Cruz. Our coaches are committed to challenging and mentoring players through positive reinforcement, while building a strong basketball foundation that helps athletes take their game to the next level. We emphasize maximum effort, great attitude, and continuous growth.
Sunday Workouts focus on individual development and team play through a mix of drills, stations, and live action. Players will work on:
ball handling and pivoting
attack moves
Shooting form and technique
offensive and defensive Footwork
defense and rebounding
conditioning
core fundamentals
We will also introduce and teach offensive and defensive team concepts to help athletes learn how to play the game the right way. Each session includes small-sided games and plenty of live play to reinforce skills in real basketball situations.
In the 1st–2nd grade session, we focus on building comfort and confidence by teaching:
Basic game rules
Court spacing and positions
Key basketball terminology young players need to know
We also provide lowered hoops and smaller basketballs to ensure the best learning environment for younger athletes.
Each workout is designed to be balanced and engaging:
~33% skills & fundamentals (ball handling, pivoting, footwork, and core drills)
~33% shooting, individual defense, and team concepts
~33% organized small-sided games / live play (1v1, 2v2, 3v3)
We will play 5v5 full-court whenever possible, but it is not guaranteed in every session.
Space is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis. Players do not need to be part of Bay City’s club teams to participate—Sunday Workouts are a great way to learn the game, build confidence, and grow as a basketball player in a positive, high-energy environment.
